Demeter was the Greek goddess of argiculture, identified with the Roman Ceres. She was the sister of Zeus and the mother of Persephone. I, taking on the persona of Demeter, am a mixture of various Community Gardeners whom I have met in my different travels throughout the universe of Community Gardening. I will share with you, using humor whenever possible, some tricks and tips that I have gathered and gleaned along the many garden pathways I have trod. dedemeter

Community Gardens are usually found in densely populated urban areas. They are started by people who never knew or had forgotten the amount of money, hardships, and aches and pains, that are associated with gardening. Foolhardy, caught up in the idea of creating an agrarian utopia in the heart of the concrete jungle, these urbanites of every walk of life, every sex, color, creed and religion, financial status, and age, doggedly spend the best part of their lives in musty city offices, trying to convince a host of usually unimpressed City officials to spare a small parcel of vacant land for the purpose of raising organic produce. In some cases, this pleading for use of land has become a family tradition, with generations passing down the legacy to one or more family members, to become the "Pleader(s) for Land". Upon rare occassions, land might actually be aquired before the family lineage dies out!
